Always Be Like a Dragon is a genre-blending, emotionally charged play by Espi Tomičić that intertwines memory, trauma, and imagination.
The story follows Petar, a trans man in therapy, as he revisits childhood memories from a time when he was still Matea. Past and present overlap: voices of a therapist, chorus, and family members guide us through fragments of poverty, displacement, and identity formation.
At the center is an abandoned city flat where Matea and her siblings, led by their brother Alan, transform hardship into play — turning survival into a game of war. Beneath the children’s imagination emerge deeper cracks: bodily awakening, family tensions, the loss of home, and unspoken trauma etched into the body.
Conceived as both anti-drama and therapeutic act, Always Be Like a Dragon opens a space where personal trauma becomes collective encounter.
